We’ve all got our favorite PC games. From FPS, to RTS, to MMO/MOBA and Open World, you’re guaranteed to have at least one that you have a love/hate relationship with.

As we head to BlizzCon® 2016 this year, we thought about the games we love and the performance issues that drive us nuts.  We love the stories, characters and getting immersed in the universe. But we all hate it when poor visuals kill our gameplay. After all, there’s nothing worse than lining up for a headshot and missing because of lag, or moving so quick that graphical stuttering kicks in, making our view look like we just turned it with a hand crank.

The most annoying visual performance issues we face as gamers are simple to explain:

-          Monitors have Steady Refresh Rates
-          Graphics cards have Variable Render Rates

This digital discrepancy leads to choppy transitions, blur, stuttering, mismatched frames, and the list goes on.

Yep, it happens all the time and it’s just one of those things we learn to live with over the years. The reality is, since 2013, we’ve had the tech to make our gameplay experience so much better, but like most people, we probably didn’t realize it was there.

Meet G-SYNC™, the name you know but weren’t sure how to take advantage of

Official Explanation: Monitors with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ dynamically adjusts the frame rate (variable refresh) based on the performance of your GeForce® GPU.

Easy Explanation:  When you pair a GeForce® GPU with a G-SYNC monitor, you get the smoothest possible gaming experience that your GPU can muster.

Not sure what to look for? We’ve compiled a few quick tips, depending on the style of game you prefer:

  •         Open World and MMO/MOBA:  Given the vast landscapes and detail-rich environments of games like World of Warcraft or Fallout, you’ll tap the rendering power of your GPU to keep the pixels flowing smoothly while you run from (or into) the horde. A GTX 1050Ti will get you started in whiteout style. Add a wide-format 1ms monitor featuring rich color/detail with a high refresh rate (120Hz+) to keep you immersed in the game without missing any item drops.
  •         Real Time Strategy (RTS):  Titles like StarCraft and Civilization have so much on-screen activity that they need a more powerful GPU, like the GTX 1060, to display all the individual textures and elements in rich detail. Depending on how competitive/casual you are, a 1ms response time TN monitor will help you react to the fast moving action, while a color-rich IPS monitor will let you take in all the details and scenery.
  •          First Person Shooters (FPS) or Fighting Games:  Whether you’re playing Doom or Street Fighter, with all that fast moving action in super rich detail, winning is all about response time. There's no substitute for a 1ms 144 Hz+ monitor here. Picking the best GPU to match up with your monitor can vary wildly, so start with an Overclocked version of the GTX 1060 and work your way up as your budget allows. The GPUs OC mode will pump up the performance to crank out the 144Hz+ you need to get your fingers (and those fireballs) flying faster.

We’ve made the table below to show the perfect pairings for each game genre so you can kick butt with the performance-edge that comes from pairing the new ROG Strix GeForce® GTX 10-series Graphics Cards with ROG Swift monitors featuring NVIDIA® G-SYNC™.

But don’t worry, as long as you’re currently running a GeForce® GTX650Ti BOOST GPU or higher, you’re G-SYNC™ ready. So all you need now is a G-SYNC™ compatible monitor and you’re on your way to gaming glory!
